Chromoendoscopy is a diagnostic technique to detect any precancerous lesions or early cancer. It helps identifying areas that can be targeted for biopsy or treatment.
In this technique, a chemical substance is applied onto mucosal surface of gastrointestinal tract to spotlight particular areas and differentiate among various types of epithelia.
Although standard white light colonoscopy can detect a significant number of anomalies and reduce incidence of colon cancer in 70-90% cases, it can still miss smaller, flat lesions particularly on the right side.
Chromoendoscopic techniques is advanced than normal endoscopy as it improves the identification of minute changes in the surface pattern by enhancing the contrast of raised and deepened areas.
